Beijing Opera Demystified

Learn about China's most renowned traditional theatre…

A performance/demonstration by Mr. Ghaffar Pourazar and Ms. Morimura Chie from the International Center for Beijing Opera based in Beijing, China.

Ghaffar Pourazar is a British citizen of Iranian descent, who at age 32 quit his job as a computer animator and enrolled in a Beijing opera school. After five years of intensive training, he started presenting a hybrid, bilingual opera production based on the much-loved legend of the Monkey King. His performance has toured the world to critical acclaim. Pourazar and Chie will be staging scenes from the production and discussing the tradition of Chinese Opera, from its origins to the present day.
